Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe recorded 774 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the highest single-day surge since the onset of the pandemic in March last year.
The capital, Harare, accounted for 571 of the cases, taking the national tally of new cases over the last four days to 2 000.
In a daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said three deaths were also recorded in Bulawayo, Mashonaland East and Manicaland provinces.
“All 774 are local cases: 571 from Harare alone.
“As of 3 January 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded 15265 Cases 11574 recoveries and 380 Deaths,” the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.
Zimbabwe has again reverted to a strict national Covid-19 lockdown starting January 5, 2021 for a period of 30 days following a spike in cases of the pandemic.
The new lockdown restrictions include the closure of restaurants, schools, churches, gymnasiums and bars as part of the heightened response to a second wave of the Covid-19.
