Zimbabwe records highest Covid-19 deaths

Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe recorded 38 Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday, the highest single day fatalities since the onset of the pandemic in March last year.

The capital, Harare, accounted for 20 of the deaths, taking the national tally of those who have succumbed to the virus to 589.

In a daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said at least 1 017 new locally transmitted cases were also recorded, 419 from Harare.

All the other nine provinces also recorded new Covid-19 cases.

“1 017 new cases and 38 Deaths reported in the last 24 hours. All 1 017 are local cases: 419 from Harare alone.

“As of 13 January 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded 24 256 Cases 13 658 recoveries and 589 deaths,” said the Ministry.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 56.3 percent while active cases went up to 10 009.

Zimbabwe reverted to a strict national Covid-19 lockdown starting January 5, 2021 for a period of 30 days following a spike in cases of the disease.
