Harare,  (New Ziana) -Two of the three Special Olympics Zimbabwe golfers who last week participated at the Macau Golf Masters 2025 in China achieved international recognition after winning gold medals while the third won bronze.

Selasi Chiwisa and Simba Mushayi claimed the Gold Medal in the Contender League Division, while their teammate, Isaac Gutu, earned a Bronze Medal in the Challenger League Division, providing a proud moment for the country on one of the world’s biggest golfing stages for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The trio left Zimbabwe on Monday last week for the tournament, which ran from Wednesday to Monday at the Macau Golf and Country Club.

The Macau Golf Masters is the largest golf tournament globally for athletes with intellectual disabilities, drawing participants from across the world.

Head of Delegation and coach, Simon Murungweni, expressed immense pride in the team’s exceptional performance and commended the Ministry of Sports, the Sports and Recreation Commission, Special Olympics Zimbabwe (SOZ), parents, the Royal Harare Golf Club, and dedicated volunteers for their unwavering support throughout the journey.

He also extended a special commendation to the team’s official kit sponsor, Bard Santner, for ensuring the athletes looked smart and confident at the event.

Special Olympics Zimbabwe (SOZ) is a national sports organization that provides year round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Through sport, SOZ aims to promote inclusion, health, and personal development, offering opportunities for athletes to build confidence, demonstrate ability, and participate fully in society.

The success of the team is yet another milestone for the organization, highlighting its commitment to creating inclusive platforms for athletes with disabilities to compete, shine, and reach their full potential on the global stage.
