    Zim’s Covid-19 death toll now at 25

    Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe on Saturday recorded another Covid-19 death after a 36- year old female succumbed to the virus at a hospital in Bulawayo, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

    In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said Saturday’s death brings the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 25.

    “Today we regret to report 1 death at facility level in Bulawayo Province. The death is of a 36- year old female who was admitted in hospital on 16th of July 2020 with a persistent cough and tested positive for Covid-19,” it said.

    The Ministry also recorded 58 new positive Covid-19 cases.

    “Fifty- eight (58) cases tested positive for Covid-19 today. These include returnees from South Africa (21), Botswana (16) and 21 local cases who are isolated.

    “Two of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases. Investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other 19 cases.

    “Since the onset of the Covid-19 outbreak on 20 March 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 1 478, recovered 439, active cases 1 014 and 25 deaths,” said the Health Ministry.

    Cumulatively, Zimbabwe has conducted 100 376 Covid-19 tests.

    Zimbabwe is currently under level 2 of the nationwide lockdown meant to slow the spread of Covid-19.

    Government has since announced intention to re-tighten the Covid-19 regulations following the spike in locally transmitted cases.
