Gweru (New Ziana)-The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has given its officers October 16 as the last day of vaccination.
Speaking during conferment of badges of ranks at the ZPCS Midlands Province headquarters, Officer Commanding Midlands Commissioner Nelson Chikwature said they had received a service order giving the deadline.
“We have received a service order which says all members of the ZPCS should have been vaccinated by 16 October this year.
“What this entails is that on the 17th, one will not be allowed to come to work if not vaccinated.
“You will be required to produce your vaccination certificate on the 17th and if you are not vaccinated you will be turned away,” he said.
Chikwature said absence from work for a certain period will result in dismissal.
He also urged officers to shun the use of drugs as it will result in consequences.
“We are currently seized with the challenge of dangerous drugs use like Crystal meth, guka and others.
“Let us not be found on the wrong side of the law. The use of crystal meth results in addiction which leads to loss of appetite, continuous sleeping resulting in mental health issues and death,” he said.
Chikwature said the ZPCS plays a key role in ensuring law and order in the society, protection of citizens’ rights and security, which are essential aspects for the country’s peace, stability and development.
The government has already given a vaccination deadline for it’s workers.
