Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic road traffic accident that claimed four lives and left five others injured on the 29th of May at the 44-kilometre peg along the Chegutu–Chinhoyi Road, near Uzande Business Centre, at around 1400 hours.

According to police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the accident involved a Toyota Probox carrying seven passengers and a Toyota Lexus with two occupants. The two vehicles collided head-on under circumstances still under investigation.

“Sadly, four people lost their lives on the spot while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” said Commissioner Nyathi. “The injured were rushed to Chinhoyi Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital for post-mortem.”

The victims have been identified by their next of kin as Micah Phiri (51) of C521 DRC, Chegutu, Dadirai Nyamaka (45) of Rio Tinto, Kadoma, Munyukwi Jeremiah, of 5787 White City, Chinhoyi and Isaac Tizora (62) of 2465 Chegutu.

Commissioner Nyathi urged all motorists to exercise extreme caution on the country’s roads, especially during overtaking maneuvers.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that drivers should not overtake when it is not safe to do so. Motorists should drive responsibly and exercise maximum caution on the roads to safeguard lives,” he said.

He added that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
