ZRP denies releasing Miners Federation president Rushwaya without charge

Harare (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Tuesday dismissed social media allegations that Zimbabwe Miners Federation president, Henrietta Rushwaya, who was arrested on Monday on suspicions of attempting to smuggle gold, had been released without going to court.

Rushwaya, a former Zimbabwe Football Association president, was arrested at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport after being found in possession of 6.09 kilogrammes of gold without proper documentation.

“(The) ZRP reiterates that Henrietta Rushwaya was arrested and detained at Harare Central last night she will appear in court today (Tuesday). Allegations that she was released without being taken to court are not correct and should be dismissed,” the ZRP tweeted.

Rushwaya was arrested after scanners at the airport checkpoint detected the gold in her hand luggage.
