New Ziana > Indonsakusa > Haulage truck ploughs on a herd of cattle, killing 9 cows.

The Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road continues to be one of the most dangerous roads to drive on
because of the heavy presence of cattle, donkeys, goats as well as wild animals.
This comes after a Botswana registered truck heading to Bulawayo reportedly ploughed into 11
beasts in Chimwara area near Halfway, along the Bulawayo –Victoria Falls road.
Seven cattle died on the spot while two others died a distance away.
According to witnesses the incident happened when the beasts where coming from a water
source from across the road.
“The truck managed to stop by the side of the road a few meters away. There was minor damage
to the truck and no one was injured,” said a witness.
Chimwara 1 village head Soda Ngwenya said villagers spent the night guarding the carcasses
and waiting for police.
"It looks like the cattle were crossing the road when they were hit. We slept there waiting for the
police. We stopped a police car that was coming from Bulawayo going towards Hwange and
they promised to tell those at Gwayi base to come and attend to the case and people waited until
morning when the police eventually arrived," said Ngwenya.
However, there are a number of families in Matebeleland North province who have been losing
cattle in large numbers, barely six months ago, a Nkayi farmer lost 21 cattle after he mistakenly
administered wrong medication. Although the farmer got more beasts from well-wishers
,another Jambezi villager lost six of his cattle to lightning two months ago while a Dete woman
lost her herd of cattle to marauding lions.
