RENCO MINE – WORKERS at Renco Mine have clocked more than a fortnight on strike, demanding payment of outstanding salaries that they say have not been disbursed since July.

The situation has escalated as miners refuse to return to work until their grievances are addressed.

On October 9, 2024, the workforce at Renco Mine, a subsidiary of RioZim Limited Group, downed tools in protest against what they describe as “empty promises” from management, regarding their unpaid wages.

A representative from the workers’ committee, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed the frustration felt among the miners. “We’ve had enough of empty promises. We can’t continue working without being paid for months on end. Management needs to resolve this once and for all.”

Efforts to obtain a comment from the mine’s general manager, Irvine Taurayi Nyamukondiwa, were unsuccessful, as he referred all inquiries to the Corporate Communications Department in Harare, where attempts to reach the communications team for comment proved futile.

The continued strike underscores the growing discontent among the workforce, who are determined to fight for their rights and seek a resolution to their ongoing financial struggles.
