    Legislator acquitted of indecent assault

    MARONDERA- After a full trial, Mudzi West legislator Knowledge Kaitano was last week acquitted of the two indecent assault charges that he was facing when he appeared before Marondera magistrate Tamara Chibindi.

    The indecent assault charges that were levelled against him by an 18-year-old teenager who alleged that he caressed her, touched her shoulder and kissed her without her consent.

    The complainant is one of the students whose school fess is paid by the legislator who was represented in court by Harare-based lawyer Kudakwashe Masiyenyama of Chikwangwani Tapi Attorneys.

    Allegations were that the complainant who passed her Ordinary Level studies at Chingwena Secondary School in Mudzi wanted to continue with her studies and approached Kaitano for funding.

    The legislator assisted the complainant to enrol at Kotwa High School for her Advanced Level studies. The court alleged that on an unknown date in July last year, he caressed the complainant’s thigh in his vehicle without her consent.

    In second count, it was alleged that in the same month, he gave the complainant a cell phone and touched her shoulder and kissed her without her consent.

    Kaitano, through his lawyer, denied the allegations and was acquitted after a full trial.
