Harare, (New Ziana) – The Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) has embarked on a mission to revive its operations with the resuscitation of its flagship Knockmallock housing development project in Chegutu, Mashonaland West province, about 100 kilometers from the capital.

The project, which is expected to benefit thousands of home seekers, will be carried out in three phases, namely the setting up of a high-density suburb, followed by the creation of a medium-density suburb, and subsequently, the low-density suburb.

A total of 1 263 stands were allocated for the high-density area, while 881 and 398 for the medium and low-density suburbs, respectively.

Speaking during a stakeholder tour of the project, UDCORP chief executive officer Joey Shumbamhini hailed the partnership between his organisation and the Chegutu Rural District Council (RDC), which resulted in the implementation of the project.

“In 2024, we resuscitated the Knockmallock housing project, which falls under the Chegutu RDC and is a clear testimony that local authorities can also embrace rapid modernisations. We encourage other RDCs to engage UDCORP for partnerships in land development. Chegutu RDC has set the pace, and we are confident that others will follow suit.

“This is a self-contained project with stands for a hospital, a cemetery, a police station, residential, commercial, light industrial, and institutional purposes,” he said, adding that the UDCORP is on a transformation journey that will put its image in good light.

Shumbamhini said on 17 April 2023, UDCORP began a transformation journey when the board approved a very ambitious strategy to turn around the fortunes of the state owned entity.

“Our brand had gone bad but now are on a profound strategic journey of transformation, resilience and tangible progress,” he said.
He said the parastatal is tackling its challenges head-on with assistance from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities.

“We are also in the process of reviewing the UDCORP business model, as well as aligning organisational structure to strategy in the model. Under the new UDCORP board, we have created an organisation that is ready to deliver towards Vision 2030,” Shumbamhini said.
