Harare, (New Ziana) – Police said on Friday six people died while 35 were injured in 73 accidents that occurred on Boxing Day.

The figures represent a slight decline from the same period last year when nine people died, 38 were injured in 102 accidents.

“The major causes of the accidents were speeding, reversing errors,
following too close and inattention,” police spokesperson, Assistant
    Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

“We are appealing to motorists to avoid speeding. They should ensure
that their vehicles are mechanically sound before embarking on
    journeys.”

He said 129 vehicles were impounded, 724 tickets issued to various
    offenders and 117 touts arrested.
