It was August 2024 when I, Njebele Chuma, embarked on a journey that would change my life forever. I began my nurse aid course, filled with excitement and determination. My friend, Chitembauzyo Mudimba, thought it was all just a joke. Little did she know how serious I was about this new path.

Arriving in Hwange District, I met my teacher, Ms. Anna L. Kapeto, who was very supportive. However, my classmates were less welcoming, treating me coldly because I came from Binga. Despite the unkindness, I focused on my studies and excelled, proving that perseverance pays off.

By October 14, 2024, I began reaching out to various clinics for my practical attachment. I contacted Kamative Clinic, Tinde Clinic, Muchesu Clinic, Simatelele, Siansundu, Siabuzuba, and Siabuwa Clinic. I received positive responses from two clinics, but the others cited lack of accommodation.

The nurse in charge at Kamative, Peter Mwinde, informed me to wait for a week for the keys to the home. Time was slipping away, and my classmates had already started their attachments.

On September 13, I called Gideon Muzamba at Siansundu Clinic, who told me to come in despite needing to sign some forms. I packed my bags and headed to the bus stop, where I encountered a minor mishap—my bags spilled everywhere! With the driver, Patience Mwiinde, helping me secure them, I finally made my way to Siansundu, arriving around 1pm.

Upon arrival, I was met by kind souls, Sidumisile Ncube and Reason Muchegwa, who showed me to my new home. The warmth of the community welcomed me, and on September 15, I began my first day at the clinic.

The work was challenging at first. I remember the moment Sister Caroe S. Ntebe sent me to fetch sharps; I walked in with confidence, though I was nervous inside. Yet, the staff at Siansundu Clinic were incredibly supportive, teaching me the ropes and making every day enjoyable. Sharing meals and laughter became the norm, and I felt at home.

As February 2025 approached, the end of my course loomed near. I shared the news with my colleagues, and Zondiwe Muleya was particularly upset. She cried for days, showing how deeply I had connected with my team. Leaving the clients, especially the women of the Chipanga ward, felt like tearing a piece of my heart away.

On February 22, Sister Ntebe called with an unexpected request for me to return for a gathering. I was overjoyed and hurried to catch a bus to Siansundu. The party was a spectacular celebration, filled with laughter and a feast of delicious food.

I took a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone— Gideon Muzamba, Reason Muchegwa, Bruce Sigidi, Gazette Ndlovu, Share Munsaka, Sister Ntebe, Zondiwe Muleya, Sidumisile Ncube, and all the staff members who made my experience unforgettable.

As I prepared to leave, I felt an overwhelming sense of love and connection. I wished to meet them all again, whether in this life or the next. I will always cherish my time at Siansundu Clinic, and I hope to return someday.

This journey has not only been about learning but also about the bonds forged and the love shared. I am grateful to God for leading me through this experience, and I carry the memories of Team Siansundu in my heart forever.
