Harare,  (New Ziana) The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality was on Wednesday set to hold Provincial Traditional Cookout Competitions in Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West provinces as part of the ongoing Experience Zimbabwe campaign.

The Ministry made the announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday.

The culinary competitions will take place at the Chinhoyi University of Technology in Mashonaland West and Seke Teachers College in Mashonaland East, running under the theme “Promoting traditional gastronomy and cultural heritage through food.”

This year the competitions continue to emphasize diversity and inclusivity, with participation open in four categories, namely community members, professional chefs, tertiary students, and people with disability.

Winners from previous provincial rounds were honoured with certificates in recognition of their culinary skills and cultural contributions.

The provincial cookout competitions are part of the Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competitions, a nationwide initiative that First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa introduced, which seeks to promote traditional Zimbabwean cuisine, encourage healthy eating habits, and preserve cultural values.

It also aligns with national goals of fostering township tourism, inclusivity, and community development.

Other provincial rounds have since been held in Harare, Matabeleland and Masvingo provinces, showcasing the nation’s rich and varied culinary heritage.

As the competitions move to Mashonaland East and West, the Ministry encourages locals and tourists alike to participate and experience the vibrant flavors of Zimbabwean cuisine.
