MUTARE – A tragic incident in Sakubva has resulted in the death of 58-year-old Agnes Mugayi, a bartender at the Chineta Road Bottle Store. Mugayi was electrocuted recently due to exposed generator cables at the business premises.

The incident occurred around 7:30 am at the Munowenyu Business Centre, where Agnes was working alongside her brother, Lovemore Mugayi, and her son, Gift Bunjira.

Reports indicate that Agnes had gone to the back of the bottle store where a generator was running. When she did not return after some time, Lovemore became concerned and went to check on her. He discovered Agnes lying face down on the generator, unresponsive.

“In a desperate attempt to help her, Lovemore reached down to pull her leg but was met with an electrical shock. Realising the severity of the situation, he quickly switched off the generator and called for assistance,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.

Lovemore and Gift immediately rushed Agnes to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital; however, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka confirmed the investigation is ongoing, emphasising the need for proper safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
