Harare, (New Ziana) —A man from Beatrice has been arrested for allegedly killing his father who had chased him from home accusing him of being a thief, the police has said.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Takawira Useni, who is now facing murder charges after reportedly attacking and killing his father, Hussin Useni (49), on Saturday.
“Police in Beatrice arrested Takawira Providence Useni in connection with a case of murder in which he allegedly fatally assaulted his fatherall over the body with a knobkerrie before stabbing the victim once in the chest with a knife,” he said.
Com Nyathi said the fatal confrontation followed a heated argument, during which the father accused his son of theft and ordered him to leave the family home.
In a separate incident, police in the dormitory town of Epworth are investigating the death of Tawanda Zulu (35), whose body was discovered with a deep wound on the back in the Makomo Extension area on May 3.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and police are appealing for information that may assist with the investigation.
Meanwhile, Com Nyathi raised alarm over fatal hit-and-run incidents occurring in the country, urging motorists to render assistance to victims and report all accidents to the police within 24 hours, as required by law.
He cited three cases that occurred on Saturday and Sunday with the first one involving an 81-year-old woman who was fatally struck by an unknown motorist at the 102 km peg along the Harare-Mutare Road in Marondera and the driver fled the scene without stopping.
On Sunday, a 30-year-old man was also hit and killed by an unidentified vehicle at the 384 km peg along the Bulawayo Road in Mbembesi, Matabeleland North province, about 43 kilometres north-west of Bulawayo.
Another fatal hit-and-run occurred the same day near the Penhalonga turn-off, just before the Christmas Pass, along the Harare-Mutare Road, where an unidentified man was struck and killed.
Com Nyathi appealed to members of the public with any information on the cases to assist police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He said the tragic incidents are a reminder of the importance of road safety and the legal obligation of motorists to act responsibly.
