Mutare (Pungwe News-New Ziana)-A 25 year old Mutare man was recently arrested and arraigned before the local magistrates court for impersonation after he demanded a way bill and ticket book for inspection from a Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) conductor.

The suspect, Shamiso Munhande of New Dangare in Sakubva high density appeared before Mutare magistrate Tamara Chibindi, who remanded him in custody after he pleaded not guilty.

He is facing charges of contravening section 179 of the Criminal law Codification and Reform Act.

In his defence, Munhande said it was his right as a citizen of Zimbabwe to monitor the way the public transport was being managed and operated.

Public prosecutor Nyasha Mukonyori told the court that on November 4 this year, Munhande boarded a bus at Saurombe bus stop in Sakubva and misrepresented to a Zupco conductor Peter Mangasau that he was an inspector.

He demanded to see the way bill and the ticket book but Mangasau demanded to see his identity card and he failed to produce it, leading to his arrest.

The State argued that for him to have such right he was supposed to have been appointed by ZUPCO officials.

Meanwhile, two local women appeared before the same magistrate facing charges of shoplifting at Spar Supermarket.

The pair, Nyarai Chinyukura (17) and Tanyaradzwa Chamboko (18) reportedly went into Spar Supermarket and took 6×10 packets of chewing gum and passed the tills without paying.

They were stopped at the door by an alert security guard who demanded proof of payment.

The duo failed to produce receipts leading to their arrest.
