Harare, (New Ziana) – Tragedy struck at dawn along the Harare–Mukumbura highway on Thursday when a Yutong bus carrying 55 passengers overturned between Madziwa and Mushowani, claiming six lives on the spot and injuring 40 others.

According to a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the bus was travelling towards Bindura when one of its tyres suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to veer off the road before overturning.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, ferrying the injured passengers to nearby medical facilities, including Karanda Mission Hospital, Madziwa, Mt Darwin, and Bindura Hospitals, where they are receiving treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Bindura Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Police said the identities of the victims will be released once their next of kin have been notified.

ZRP has constantly urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, particularly during the rain season when road conditions become more hazardous.

Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
