Harare (New Ziana) – The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) has said operations at its airports are going on as usual, dismissing reports that its workers had downed tools.

Various online news outlets reported that CAAZ air traffic controllers had downed tools on Tuesday resulting in the “shutdown” of the Zimbabwean airspace with no flights scheduled to fly in and out of the country being cleared since morning.

    But CAAZ denied the reports.

“Our attention has been drawn to some reports circulating on various media platforms this morning, our airspace is open and flights are operating as normal,” the authority tweeted.

CAAZ operates a network of eight airports including the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare, the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo and the Victoria Falls International Airport.

It is the government body responsible for regulating the aviation sector in Zimbabwe.

Its other functions include the provision of air navigation and technical services, airport development and operations as well as regulating and enforcing flight safety and standards.

CAAZ was established in 1999, replacing the former Department of Civil Aviation.
