CAPS United fined US$5 000 for causing abandonment of match against FC Platinum

Harare, (New Ziana) – The Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee has fined Caps United FC US$5000 by for causing the abandonment of its match against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on April 6 this year, an official has said.
In a statement, PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe was also fined US$400 for making statements that bring the league into disrepute.
She said US$500 of the fine on condition that the club is not found guilty of a similar nature.
The game was abandoned four minutes before full time due to crowd trouble resulting in match officials abandoning it as they felt that it was not safe to continue with it.
This was after angry CAPS United fans stormed the field of play, protesting against a decision to rule out what they claimed was a legitimate equaliser.
FC Platinum were leading 1-0 at the time, courtesy of a Juan Mutudza goal after nine minutes.
“The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has released the judgement in the matter involving Caps United FC following the abandonment of their match against FC Platinum played at Mandava Stadium on 6 April 2024,” said Bare.
“The club was found guilty of causing the abandonment of the match and fined US$5 000, US$500 of which is suspended on condition that the club is not convicted of a similar offence.”
She said the effective fine of US$4 500 together with the costs of the hearing were to be paid by May 27 this year.
As if that was not enough punishment for Caps United, the match was awarded to FC Platinum on a 3-0 scoreline.
