PREVIOUS winners of the Chibuku Road to Fame Competition have sighted the
challenges and obstacles they faced especially after bagging the coveted prize.
Grade 2D from Mashonaland West Province were the overall winners of the Chibuku
Road to Fame Competition in 2022, after outshining other contestants.
After winning the competition, the group received US$ 15 000.
Since getting the fame, the group has been preparing to record their first album, which
is set to be launched this month (September).
In an interview with Telegraph, Tafadzwa Peace Kamuchanyu, a Grade 2D group
member said after winning the competition it was not an easy road for them to reach
where they are now, but they have endured and there are some developments which
they have achieved.
“We have managed to buy a small PA system from the money that we won and that’s
what we are using for the practices.
“We were eight when we started this journey in 2015, then nekuwoma kwezvinhu
mumwe akaenda ku South Africa then mumwe Dubai, so last year takatsvaga vamwe
two to replace patakapedza ndokubva vaenda because they had their own journey
music
“Our problems are similar to those faced mostly by many other artists in the industry.
The big challenge we faced was pekuitira practice aiva ma1. The other main challenge
is our band members vakazobuda muChinhoyi so kuvaunganidza for practice paibuda
mari dzetransport, accommodation because vamwe vanga vatoita relocate from
Chinhoyi and the other one was a student at CUT so anga apedza.
“We have our album launch here in Chinhoyi, happening on September 28 at a venue to
be announced,” said Kamuchanyu.
However, when one wins in the Chibuku competition, he said, one is never allowed to
participate in the competition as it is a once-off thing.
