FORMER Chinhoyi Councillor, who is now Chairman for Combined Chinhoyi Residents’
Association (CCRA), Tendai Musonza, is contesting in Ward 11 as an Independent
candidate in the forthcoming elections.
Musonza was a councilor from 2008 to 2013. Ward 11, which he is contesting for has
five polling stations which are Chinhoyi University of Technology, Lomagundi Primary
School, Chinhoyi High School, Citrus Farm and Exor Service Station.
The CCRA Chairman says as a former councillor he has experience in local governance
issues and his desire has been driven by wanting to represent residents so that the
ratepayers in Chinhoyi receive proper service delivery.
“My decision to stand has been prompted by the need to have an independent voice, in
the council chambers that can speak on behalf of residents to ensure proper service
delivery in our ward and Chinhoyi at large.
“As a former councillor and having done Local Governance at Midlands State
University, my experience in local governance will help to hold council management
accountable on service delivery,” said Musonza.
Musonza said being an independent candidate has some advantages, which include
curbing corruption, reporting directly to the residents on time and not being partisan in
the execution of council business.
He also said there are a number of issues which require immediate attention to both
Ward 11 and Chinhoyi and these issues include constant provision of water as the town
needs a long-term solution for sustainable water supply, considering the growth of the
town.
“There is need for immediate attention on refuse collection, road rehabilitation, a fair
and reasonable council budget for both residents and the business community,
establishment of income-generating projects, timeous payment of council salaries,
manicure of public spaces like the town park, street lighting, provision of suitable
informal traders marketing spaces,” he said.
