Harare (New- Ziana) –Fuel queues have disappeared as most service stations in the capital took delivery of petrol over the weekend and early Monday morning following supply disruptions over the past two weeks.
Scheduled maintenance work at Beira port, Mozambique where the bulk of Zimbabwe’s fuel comes from, had resulted in shortages of mainly petrol.
Pumping of over 100 million litres expected between now and Christmas has since started with motorists breathing a sigh of relief as they were fearing to be grounded during the holiday.
A survey by New Ziana on Monday in Harare’s Central Business District showed that most fuel stations had both diesel and petrol in stock and did not have queues.
“Today the situation is far much better as compared to the past few days. As you can see we no longer have queues at all since petrol is now available,” said a fuel attendant at Trek service station along Samora Machel Avenue.
Further inquiries at other service stations including Puma, Zuva and Total also showed a return to normalcy.
“We received petrol supplies on Sunday evening and another tanker is expected again today,” an attendant at Zuva service station said.
The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority had since assured Zimbabweans of an imminent return to normalcy.
“The authority notes that there was a downtime of the fuel terminal in Beira, due to repairs taking place at the port following damages caused by Cyclone Idai,” Zera said.
“The authority is closely monitoring the fuel situation in the country and assures motorists that the country has adequate fuel supplies and therefore (there is) no need to panic.”
