Gender Commission welcomes rapist lawyer’s sentence

Share

Gweru (New Ziana) –The Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) and the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) have welcomed the 18-year jail sentence slapped on a Gokwe based lawyer who was convicted for raping his friend’s four-year-old daughter.

Mike Mudara (34) who works for the Ministry of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, will serve an effective 18-year imprisonment after his crime.

The ZGC and WCoZ applauded the judiciary for taking seriously sexual abuses against the girl child through such a stiff penalty.

“Well done the National Prosecution Authority for publicizing this issue and calling for a stiffer penalty to the perpetrator. ZGC unequivocally adds its voice for harsher punishment to those convicted of raping children,” said the ZGC.

WCoZ Midlands chairperson Nozipho Rutsate said: “We applaud the justice system for taking seriously sexual abuses against the girl child through such a judgement.

“Our social fabric has really been torn apart because most of these minors are being abused by their guardians or close family friends. We also request that children be taught how to protect themselves and report sexual abuses even from ECD level.”
