Harare (New Ziana) -The Harare chapter of the Zimbabwe Boxing Association has postponed to May 13, the provincial championships which were scheduled for this Saturday to allow for Zanu PF primary election re-runs to take place.

Zanu PF will conduct primary election reruns in various wards throughout the country this Saturday after in some cases, first rounds failed to produce winners, uncontested candidates have pending court cases and where polls were not held due to changes in electoral boundaries.

In a statement, Kingston Jokonya, secretary of the Harare Province Boxing Association, said the rescheduling was to ensure public safety.

“We regret to inform the public that the Provincial Boxing Championship tournament, scheduled to take place on 6 May, has been postponed to Saturday 13 May, 2023 to allow the Zanu PF primary elections re-run,” he said.

“The safety of our athletes, coaches and spectators is our top priority and we believe that the postponement of the tournament is the best decision to ensure that everyone involved is safe.”

Jokonya apologised for the inconvenience that the postponement might cause to those who had made plans to attend the tournament.
