Hwange College of Education has announced its 2026 intake for the three-year Diploma in Education (Junior Programme), with a strong emphasis on indigenous language instruction in line with national education policy.
Applicants must hold a minimum of five ‘O’ Level passes, including English Language, Mathematics, Science, and any other officially recognised language with a grade ‘C’ or better.
The inclusion of local languages such as ChiTonga, ChiNambya, and IsiNdebele reflects the college’s commitment to culturally responsive education.
The institution, an associate college of the University of Zimbabwe, has become a key player in advancing Heritage-Based Education 5.0, which promotes teaching in mother tongues and community- rooted learning. Recent graduates from Hwange College have specialised in ChiTonga and ChiNambya, supporting the government’s “leave no one and no place behind” mantra.
Applications must be submitted by Friday August 8, accompanied by certified copies of academic and identity documents, and a US$20 or ZiG equivalent processing fee. Forms are available directly from the college.
The Acting Principal, Royal Ntinini, recently reaffirmed the college’s role in preparing educators who can teach in local languages and contribute to regional development through education.
