Hwange(Indonsakusa-New Ziana) A Hwange man will rue the day he courted the temper of his prospective mother-in-law who baptized him with boiling water after he allegedly made sexual advances on her.

Tinashe Chipuriro is said to have irked his future mother-in-law, Mavis Ngwenya after he allegedly told her he could not go away without seeing her daughter before suggesting that she could take her place.

Ngwenya, (41), appeared before Hwange provincial magistrate, Gift Ntando Dube facing an assault charge.

She was convicted on her own plea of guilty and sentenced to perform 105 hours of community service at a local clinic in the coal mining town.

Ngwenya told the court that Chipuriro provoked her by suggesting that they have sex and said the cup of hot water was the only weapon available to chastise him for disrespect.

“I was provoked for a long time as complainant said he wanted to sleep with me or my daughter. He showed that he did not respect that I’m the mother to his girlfriend. The only tool available that I could find in my quest to teach him a lesson was the boiling water,” she said.

The court heard that on August 18 this year around 7 pm, Chipuriro proceeded to F24C in Lwendulu to see his girlfriend who is Ngwenya’s daughter.

He arrived and knocked on the door after which Ngwenya answered the knock and told him her daughter was not around.

However, Chipuriro continued standing at the door making some noise which infuriated Ngwenya.

She came out armed with a cup of boiling water which she poured on his back.

Fearing the worst, Chipuriro fled the place and went to file a police report.

He however, did not seek medical attention resulting in difficulties in ascertaining the extent of his injuries.

John Mutyakaviri appeared for the state.
