    Infectious diseases hospital for Masvingo

    MASVINGO City Council is planning to establish an infectious diseases hospital in the city,
    with the matter having been referred to the Public Works and Planning Committee.
    According to the minutes of the Health, Housing and Environmental Services Committee, the
    Chief Environmental Health Officer, Suzanne Madamombe, was directed to request from the
    Public Works Committee, for the establishment of the hospital.
    “On Tuberculosis management, the Committee highlighted that Council should make efforts
    to establish an infectious diseases hospital in the city. It was suggested and agreed that
    Council should identify the suitable site for the hospital and then work on the mobilisation of
    funding for the project. The matter was referred to the Public Works and Planning Committee
    for consideration.
    The committee resolved to recommend that Chief Environmental Health Officer be instructed
    to refer the request for the establishment of an Infectious Diseases Hospital, to the Public
    Works and Planning Committee for consideration.”
    Meanwhile, on curative health services, Madamombe was instructed by the committee to
    refer to council management the procurement of essential drugs for the council clinics.
    “The report of the Chief Environmental Health Officer on Curative Health Services statistics
    for the month of January 2023 covering Masvingo Urban Demographic data, Mother to Child
    health services, drug availability, out patients, chronic infections, Covid-19 vaccination,
    transport services, patients’ attendance at Council Clinics and PMTCT services was noted.
    The Committee raised concern over the critical shortage of drugs at Council Clinics. The
    Chief Environmental Health Officer was instructed to refer to Management, the need for
    procurement of essential drugs for Council Clinics,” reads part of the minutes.
