MARONDERA- Sungura music icon Josphat Somanje has been sampling songs that are on his yet-to-be-released album and most of the tracks are proving to be popular with followers of the genre.

The Marondera-based musician is preparing to officially launch a new album titled Daniel Chapter 7 at Tandarai Beerhall in the high-density suburb of Dombotombo.in the provincial capital.

With decades in the music industry, the soft-spoken Josphat cut his music teeth with his late elder brother Daiton with whom he formed the ever-popular Pengaudzoke band which is now being fronted by the latter’s son, Faheem.

Josphat now leads the Somanje Stars which he formed after failing to strike a conducive working code with Faheem.

In an interview with Chaminuka News, he said he had earmarked to release the album late last year but could not make it as he failed to rope in sponsors to bankroll the event.

He said: “The launch of Daniel Chapter 7 has been long overdue. I planned to launch the album last year but I have been facing logistical challenges since the corporate world has not been willing to help fund the event.

“That being the case, I have decided to launch the album in a few weeks’ time at Tandarai Beerhall Dombotombo using the resources available. Our fans should be patient with us and they will witness the album launch soon.”

Daniel Chapter 7 contains six tracks – Chiremba wekwaMakoni, Muromo Haugoni, Vimba Hako Neni, Kuseka kweweparadio, Makwambara and the title track itself, Hope dzaDaniel.

“As we brace for the album launch, I would like to make it clear to our fans that all songs were recorded and mastered. We are even playing some of the tracks at our shows and they have been warmly received. Some fans passionately love our music and I want to thank them for their unwavering support. Their support gives us the energy to keep pushing on in whatever circumstances.

“In my musical journey, I have encountered mixed fortunes but I have managed to soldier on and here I am today. Focusing on my music despite the marital issues and other challenges has been key towards my success in music,” Josphat added.

Hope DzaDaniel will be Josphat’s 17th album.
