KWEKWE — Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Ward 1 councillor Alex Senge has appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court, facing allegations of engaging in sexual intercourse with an underage girl who subsequently contracted a sexually transmitted infection.

Senge was brought before the court from Garandichauya Police Station in Mbizo, where he was detained after his arrest.

The prosecution alleges that Senge engaged in sexual intercourse with the complainant, a Form Four student at Kwekwe High School, on seven occasions.

The complainant’s identity has been withheld in accordance with legal and ethical requirements protecting minors involved in sexual offence cases.

According to the allegations presented in court, the girl later contracted a sexually transmitted infection.

The court also heard allegations that Senge bought the girl a smartphone and a new SIM card in an attempt to persuade her to remain silent about the alleged encounters.

The matter was placed on remand, with the prosecution citing provisions of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23] relating to sexual offences involving minors.

The allegations have yet to be tested in court, and Senge is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case has attracted public interest because Senge is an elected local authority representative.

The matter is expected to continue before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court, with further developments anticipated as the proceedings unfold.
