Kwekwe (New Ziana) -The City of Kwekwe has been given the opportunity and responsibility to host the Zimbabwe and Pakistan national cricket teams in a four-day international match from May 3 to 6 this year.

Kwekwe hosted some of the Internal Cricket Council World Cup qualifiers together with Harare and Bulawayo in 2008.

The opportunity will immensely benefit the Midlands Cricket Association and the Rhinos Cricket Club who also use the Kwekwe Sports Club as their home ground.

Kwekwe Sports club and the Rhinos management team led by general manager Admire Marodza and administrator Victor Mhlanga are ecstatic about hosting the international game.

Curator Austin Jani has vast experience in preparing the best crease which suits both teams at any given time and environment. He prepared the centre for Australia, Tanzania, Nigeria and the 2008 World cup qualifiers.

In an interview with New Ziana, Marodza said it was an honour for Kwekwe and the Midlands province to host the international between Zimbabwe A and Pakistan A.

“We are hosting Pakistan A versus Zimbabwe A for a four-day game. For us as Rhinos and as Midlands, it is such a huge honour for us to host such matches. We would really love to host games of this magnitude very often.

“We appreciate this and we will make sure that we do our best to make this match a success. We are going to market the game in the whole province and everyone should know about this game. Even though it is during the week, we want people to come in and support the team.

“This is a perfect opportunity for us to market our Rhinos cricket brand. We really cherish such moments,” he said.

Fans are in for a treat as they will see the best cricket players from the two countries bowling and batting at the centre for four days.
