MUTARE-A tragic accident at the Sakubva Bus Terminus recently resulted in the death of 26-year-old Elvis Mudhigu, a resident of McGregor’s in Sakubva, Mutare.

Mudhigu was lying on the ground in the parking bay when he was run over by an Asia Star bus, leading to a devastating outcome.

Acting Manicaland Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, detailing the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

“Loardshare Mushipe (47), a resident of Chalonda, Ascot in Gweru, was the driver of the bus involved in the incident. According to reports, Mushipe was in the process of reversing the Asia Star bus when he inadvertently ran over Mudhigu, who was lying on the ground,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka

The impact was severe, with Mudhigu sustaining multiple injuries, including bruises on both hands and broken ribs. Unfortunately, he died on the spot due to the extent of his injuries. The incident was promptly reported to the Mutare Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), which initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Following the accident, Mudhigu’s body was transported to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination, as is standard procedure in such cases.

Meanwhile, the driver, Mushipe, has been referred to the Mutare Vehicle Inspection Department (VID), where he has been charged with culpable homicide, a serious offense that highlights the consequences that may arise from negligence or failure to ensure safety while operating a vehicle.
