‎‎Harare, (New Ziana)— Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has sent a message of condolence to the families of those that perished in two separate road traffic accidents that occurred on major highways leading out of the capital on Wednesday, claiming 13 lives.

‎In the first tragedy, 10 people died on the spot in a head-on collision at the 185-kilometre peg along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road.

Details surrounding the cause of the crash are still being investigated, but emergency services responded swiftly to the scene.

‎In the second incident on the Harare–Mutare Road, at the 32.5-kilometre peg, three people lost their lives while fifteen others sustained injuries after a commuter omnibus overturned following a tyre burst.

The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, where they are receiving treatment with the government closely monitoring their recovery.

‎In a statement, Mhona conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

‎”These tragic incidents come at a time when traffic volumes are increasing as the festive season approaches. They serve as a painful reminder to all transport operators, motorists, and members of the public of the need to strictly observe road traffic rules at all times,” he said.

He warned that reckless driving, speeding, and overloading would not be tolerated, adding that enforcement measures will be intensified to protect the commuting public during the holiday period.

‎Reaffirming government policy, Mhona said the Second Republic remains committed to improving road safety through strengthened legal, policy, and administrative interventions aimed at reducing traffic accidents and saving lives.
