Share

Harare (New Ziana)-The body of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe was on Monday flown to his rural home in Zvimba, Mashonaland West province, to give people from the community a chance to pay their last respects to one of their own.

Mugabe died in Singapore last Friday at the age of 95 after a long political career spanning decades.

The man, affectionately known as Gushungo (his totem), left behind a rich legacy of selfless dedication to the country and continent.

On arrival, the body was first taken to Murombedzi Growth Point where a memorial service and body viewing was held.

Speaking from Mugabe’s homestead, his nephew Albert Mugabe said the body of the late ex- President would lie in state followed by a church service on Tuesday.

“We are spending the night here. He was a devout Catholic. Ideally we would want to have a mass (Catholic Church service) tomorrow (Tuesday), or at least some kind of church service,” he said.

The late former President will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in a special mausoleum at a date to be announced as it is still being constructed.
