MUTARE-Mutare City Councillors who won in last month's harmonised elections took the oath of office
last Thursday at the Civic Centre.
The 25 councillors were sworn in by Mutare Acting Town Clerk Blessing Chafesuka and will now undergo
induction training before choosing a mayor, deputy mayor and chairperson of committees.
Of the 25 councillors, eight are female with six of them coming through the proportional representation
quota.
The Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) won the majority after supplying 23 councillors to the chamber.
Chafesuka said the election of mayors and deputy mayors will be done after the councillors have gone
through their induction session as per directive from the parent ministry.
“According to the Government directive we are supposed to have the swearing in ceremony first then
the induction training which is currently happening across the country. Thereafter we will then convene
our first full council meeting where the mayor, deputy mayor and committee chairs will be elected,” said
Chafesuka.
The new council for Mutare City is as follows, John Nyamhoka(Ward 1), Gift Kadozora (Ward
2),Tichaenzana Maita(Ward 3), Edison Kalulu (Ward 4),Simon Mapuvire (Ward 5), Sekai Mukodza (Ward
6), Daniel Saunyama (Ward 7),Sophia Gwasira( Ward 8), Blessing Murindashaka (Ward 9), Calvin
Matsiya (Ward 10), Simon Chabuka (Ward 11), Cloud Nengomasha (Ward 12),Takesure
Musorowenzou(Ward 13),Patrick Masenyama (Ward 14), Itayi Chisoni (Ward 15),Gift Chatikobo( Ward
16),Jeffrey Nyamana (Ward 17),James Mugorosa (Ward 18) and Zvichauuya Mukombero (Ward 19).
Under the Women's Quota are Miriam Tandire, Lilian Chipiro, Tapiwa Manyarara, Sarah Manjengwa,
Victoria Chimonyo and Charity Chirara.
