Harare, (New Ziana) –The National Assembly has removed Bikita South legislator Energy Mutodi as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion with immediate effect.
Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda communicated the development to Mutodi on Tuesday in a letter titled “Resolution of the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders – Termination of Hon. Dr. E. Mutodi’s Tenure as Chairperson of the Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion.”
He stated that the move followed a resolution passed by the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) in line with Standing Order No. 19 of the National Assembly. “This serves to notify you that pursuant to Standing Order No. 19 of the National Assembly, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) has resolved to terminate your tenure as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion with immediate effect,” he said without specifying the reasons for the removal.
Mudenda further directed that all benefits and entitlements associated with the chairmanship be discontinued “forthwith.” The Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion plays a crucial role in scrutinizing national budget processes, fiscal policies, and investment strategies, making its chairmanship one of the most influential in Parliament.
