MWENEZI District is grappling with the challenge posed by the cholera pandemic.

A pivotal meeting convened Tuesday, at the Mwenezi Sub-catchment Council
Boardroom in Rutenga, sought to address this crisis through collaborative efforts.

Regrettably, the district finds itself inadequately equipped to handle the outbreak,
prompting a plea for a comprehensive response from both national and provincial
    government levels.
The district faces multiple hurdles, including water shortages, electricity disruptions,
and a scarcity of vital resources such as motorcycles, testing kits, vehicles, and
tents. Meanwhile, the daily rise in the number of deaths and infections adds urgency
    to the situation.

A disconcerting incident occurred as four individuals managed to escape from the
treatment centre, with only two returning to receive the necessary medical attention.

The source of the cholera outbreak is believed to be a funeral gathering at an
Apostolic church in Ward 18. This initial epicentre has now triggered a broader
    spread of the pandemic.

Notably, it is suspected that relatives from Harare and Chiredzi, present at the
funeral, might have introduced and transmitted the cholera to the Apostolic church
    members. – Rural Communication Services
