Harare(New Ziana)-The forthcoming 18th Zanu PF annual national people’s conference should come up with key economic resolutions to assist the government in its quest to turn around the economy, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Wednesday.

The conference opens next week in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East province.

Addressing an ordinary meeting of the Zanu PF politburo, President Mnangagwa said the conference should also proffer policy guidelines to the government.

“We are holding this meeting barely a week ahead of the 18th National Peoples Conference. We look forward to receiving reports on the state of preparedness in view of our renewed impetus to increase productivity, grow our economy and create jobs.

“Our conference must proffer the appropriate policy guidance to Government and outline achievable goals,” he said.

President Mnangagwa urged all members to give enough attention to the discussions of the conference.

“All departments must determine to see a qualitative improvement in the discussions and resolutions of the conference with regards to the economic direction we are taking,” he said.

He also took time to appreciate leadership of the various wings of the party for organising recent events which facilitated interaction with the grassroots.

“We will not tolerate armchair leaders. The culture of the Second Republic is servant leadership. Those who are not prepared to fold up their sleeves and work for the party; bad luck,” he said.

President Mnangagwa commended China for treating his deputy General (Rtd) Constantine Chiwenga who received treatment in that country for four months.

“I wish to express on behalf of Zanu PF and the people of Zimbabwe, gratitude for the services and care rendered to our Vice President (Chiwenga) courtesy of His Excellence President of China Xi Jinping who personally undertook and instructed his team to give maximum care to our VP.

“This kind of solidarity indicates the strong and deep relations between Zimbabwe and China after our relations were upgraded to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership with the Peoples Republic of China,” he said.

“We are happy that he is back,” he added.
