President Mnangagwa swears in new ministers

Harare (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday swore into office two new ministers and six deputy ministers following the cabinet reshuffle last Friday.

The reshuffle, the first major one since cabinet was appointed late last year, saw five Ministers being re-assigned, two new Ministers and six new deputy Ministers being appointed, while an additional Ministry was created.

First to take the oaths of loyalty, office and secrecy were the new cabinet Ministers, Jenfan Muswere of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services and Daniel Garwe who was appointed to the newly created Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities.

Muswere served as deputy minister in the same Ministry before his elevation.

Garwe, a veteran in the construction industry, told reporters after his inauguration that his priority was to assist in the revival of the
“dormant” construction industry, bringing sanity in the housing sector, and creating employment.

“The construction industry right now is dormant because of the economic hardships that the country is going through. It’s a service
industry, people would want money to get into the stomach first before they think of housing.”

“Our idea is to turn around the economy and the construction industry plays a critical role.”

He said he would “relook” at the housing policy and “fine tune” it.

“Construction is a hard hat industry. It creates massive amounts of jobs and that is what we are going to push to ensure that out youths and women are afforded an opportunity and by doing that we will be creating wealth,” Garwe said.

After the cabinet Ministers, the deputy ministers followed in taking oaths of loyalty and office only as they do not sit in cabinet.

Last week’s reshuffle saw Mangaliso Ndlovu, who was moved from Industry and Commerce, being appointed the renamed Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Ministry where he replaced Priscah Mupfumira who was fired after she was arrested on corruption charges, which she is still battling in the courts.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Dr Sekai Nzenza took over from Ndlovu at Industry, while she was replaced by Professor
Paul Mavima, who was re-assigned from the Primary and Secondary Education Ministry.

Prof Mavima was replaced by former Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Cain Mathema who was replaced by former Information Communication Technology Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, who was succeeded by his former deputy Muswere.
