A senior Government official has warned farmers in Masvingo province to
desist from abusing the Climate Proofed Presidential Pfumvudza/Intwasa input
scheme that is meant to boost food security.
There have been reported cases of illegal sales of the inputs in some parts of the
province, with other distribution officials being accused of unfairly distributing
the inputs in Nyajena.
Responding to concerns raised over the abuses of the inputs, Masvingo Minister
of State for Provincial Affairs, Ezra Chadzamira, said that those who are caught
on the wrong side of the law will face the music.
The province has given out maize seed inputs to 309 066 households and is
targeting to reach out to 326 046.
“Presidential inputs are given to every household regardless of their political
affiliation and to those who sell those inputs instead of ploughing, the
Government has set up a committee that looks into the distribution of the inputs.
“The committee involves those from the army, police, councillors and Agritex
officers. Those, who will be found selling the inputs, that’s the work for the
police, to arrest the offenders so that they will be prosecuted.”
Meanwhile, under the Cotton Pfumvudza scheme the province has planted 249
hectares to date.
