Chiredzi (New Ziana) – A prominent Chiredzi butcher has appeared before in court on charges of stock theft involving 27 herd of cattle.

Tinashe Gwenyaya is being jointly charged with three alleged accomplices – Abraham Madyiwa, Samuel Mudzupuri and Jefrest William.

Chiredzi resident magistrate, Misheck Munyaradzi remanded the four in custody.

Gwenyanya was arrested after he was allegedly found with 18 hides of cattle and nine live beasts that he failed to account for.

The State alleged that the butchery operator and his accomplices of Village 5 Extension Area, Triangle, Chiredzi, stole 27 herd of cattle between last November 23 and this month on different occasions from homesteads and grazing areas.

The stolen herd would allegedly be driven to Madyiwa’s homestead at Village 1, Bomba, Triangle, where they would be slaughtered and the hides buried around the homestead.

The rampant stock theft in which one of the complainants, Bishi Mago and other villagers failed to locate five herd of cattle led Mago to report cases to Chiredzi and Triangle police stations.

After a tip off, police discovered 18 hides and nine live beasts at Madyiwa’s homestead.

Gwenyaya, Madyiwa, Mudzupuri and William were remanded to February 25.
