Russia considers Brazil and India worthy candidates for permanent membership in the UN Security Council

(Brazil 247- TV BRICS) -According to Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, if an agreement is reached on expanding the UN Security Council with permanent and non-permanent members, Russia considers India and Brazil as worthy candidates for permanent membership. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to him, the task of adapting the Security Council to modern realities is long overdue.

“Russia, as a permanent member of the Security Council, proceeds from the need to make this body more representative on behalf of developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America,” the Russian diplomat said.

“In addition, in case a reform model is agreed upon, which implies the expansion of the Security Council in both categories of members, we consider India and Brazil as worthy candidates for a permanent seat in the Security Council,” Polyansky stressed.

According to the Russian representative, it is important that the expansion of the UN Security Council does not affect its ability to effectively and quickly respond to emerging challenges.
