Harare, (New Ziana) – Preparations for the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held at the new Parliament Building in Mt Hampden are well on course with considerable progress being made in the rehabilitation of roads to the venue, a Cabinet Minister said on Tuesday.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere told the media that Vice President Constantine Chiwenga had appraised Cabinet that the bulk of the preparatory works are underway and will be completed within the scheduled timeframe.
“Plans are afoot to beautify the City of Harare from the Robert Mugabe Airport to the New City.
“The private sector, including small and medium enterprises, is encouraged to participate in the various committees involved in preparations for the successful hosting of the Summit,” he said.
The summit, which will run from the 17th to the 18th of August, will see President Emmerson Mnangagwa assuming the chairmanship of the regional body when Zimbabwe takes over its leadership for a year.
Currently, Zimbabwe is the Vice Chair while Angola is the Chair.
