Harare, (New Ziana) – Construction of 18 state-of-the-art villas in Mt Hampden that will house Heads of State and Government of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) coming for the group’s summit in August is set to be completed by end of July, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
Speaking to journalists after touring the site where a conference facility was also set to be constructed, President Mnangagwa said his vision was to build a new world class city in the area which would be better than Dubai.
“Yes, I am satisfied that they are going to complete constructing villas which are meant to facilitate accommodation for Heads of State. I am told that by end of July, early August everything will be completed, I have no doubt that we will accomplish the task,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said he was happy the creation of the city taking sharp, albeit slowly. The area is also home to the country’s new Parliament.
“My vision is to produce a new city that is better than Dubai, so our children should not be going to Dubai. They will be coming to see the new city, the ED new city,” he said.
He said the country was privileged to host the SADC summit, and was working 24 hours to put in place everything required for this.
