GWERU – Castle Lager Premier Soccer League newcomers Sheasham FC received a major boost after it received a sponsorship package from Kwekwe businessman Aaron Chinhara worth US$50 000.
The ambitious Gweru outfit also received several endorsements from businesses and individuals during its fund-raising dinner in the Midlands capital recently.
Chinhara, who is owner of Glow Petroleum called on the Midlands family to partner with the team.
“We should not leave the owners led by (Clever) Mandaza to run the team alone. They have been doing this in the past but it is time that we all come together for the benefit of the team,” he said.
Chinhara donated US$20 000 during the dinner dance and pledged to avail more sponsorship to the tune of US$30 000 as the season progresses.
The Kwekwe businessman also donated US$300 to Kudakwashe Matape, the team’s most disciplined player for 2022 and US$500 to footballer of the year Arnold Dirawu.
He said sport is an important part of life and a career path in addition to being an entertainment.
The promotion of Sheasham will bring business and tourism to the city through visiting teams and their fans, who will transact when they come.
Chinhara also donated US$10 000 to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Whawha FC to help them finish off the season.
“We do not want Whawha to die, but we want more teams from Midlands in the Premier League so Sheasham should up your game because the PSL is tough,” he said.
Team president Mandaza said they had put up an ambitious plan for the 2023 season that would see the Construction Boys renovating Bata Stadium so that it becomes their home ground next year.
“The stadium is currently under renovation and we are confident that we will be ready by the time the season starts as we are doing most of the work inhouse,” he said.
Mandaza said they will also look into the players and see where there is need to strengthen their squad. He urged local supporters and other stakeholders to partner with the team as the future looks bright.
Sheasham also honoured outstanding players with McDonald Mavuto winning the most improved player, Liberty Chiramba goalkeeper of the season and Magazi Fizo the most consistent player.
Striker Liberty Masveure won the golden boot award after scoring 16 goals, while Physwel Madhazi was the most consistent player.
Other sponsors that came on board included George Mitchell Sports, Chitere Chidawanyika and Partners, Nyaradzo Group and lawyers Danziger and Partners among others.
