SHURUGWI – Villagers have hailed Shurugwi South Member of Parliament Wilson Mhuri for mobilising financial resources to rehabilitate boreholes in the constituency.
This comes after the legislator facilitated the repairing of 36 boreholes in the constituency.
Mhuri engaged a development partner and sourced up to $5 000 worth of resources used to repair the boreholes in all the needy wards.
“Thank you, MP Mhuri you have demonstrated how, a good leader should lead. You are a people’s leader with people at heart,” said Pascar Mhofu from Clarans Farm.
A villager from Dorset Resettlement area, Tafara Mubereki said they were impressed by the calibre of the current Member of Parliament.
“The MP went into different wards and conscientised people to participate in developmental issues of their constituency instead of waiting for government and council to do it for them. Hence, he led by example by embracing the Public Private Partnership approach that happened to bear fruits. People now have water close to their vicinity, it’s quite commendable,” said Mubereki.
In a telephone interview, community development activist and Khayelihle Rural library secretary Nkosilathi Sayi applauded the legislator for ensuring availability of water.
“He has started well. However, he should not end there but should go further and work towards sustainable management of the availed water in order to ensure safe water and sanitation for all,” said Sayi.
A former Dorset Development Association member who declined to be named, said MP Mhuri should train volunteers to maintain and repair the boreholes and to ensure that water sources are clean.
Mhuri thanked villagers for their voluntary gesture that resulted in their actively participation during the borehole repairing programme.
He encouraged the villagers to continue volunteering their time which he said is essential to the successful implementation of the country’s vision.
Since his election into office, Mhuri has been responsive to volunteer-led community initiatives and this approach seems to be working well for him and the constituency.
The legislator has also been praised by civic and community organisations for recognising the value of efficient legislation, policies, structures and for establishing structures to enable more people to voluntary do community work.
