Masvingo (Masvingo Star-New Ziana) – Three people died and one was seriously injured when their vehicles were involved in a collision along the Masvingo-Mutare Road last Sunday, police have said.

The accident involved a VW Polo that was being driven by a Bikita Minerals employee, and an Isuzu KB250 that was being driven by a Roman Catholic Church priest.

It occurred around the 244km peg along Masvingo-Mutare road.

The VW Polo had one passenger on board and was being driven by Victor Simango,(32), of Bikita. Upon reaching the 244km peg, Simango lost control of the vehicle and encroached onto the lane of the oncoming Isuzu KB250, resulting in a head on collision.

Simango and his passenger, Sheila Banda, (32), of Duma, died on the spot, both having sustained head injuries. Simango also sustained a fracture on the right leg whilst Banda sustained fractures on both legs.

Another passenger from the Isuzu KB250 died on the spot and the relatives were yet to be informed.

A second passenger in the Isuzu car sustained a deep cut on the knee and complained of chest pains.

Both cars suffered extensive frontal damage.

Masvingo police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector, Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the accident and urged drivers to be more cautious when driving to avoid the loss of lives.
