Harare, (New Ziana) -Three incoming ambassadors presented their credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at state house in Harare on Thursday, all pledging to work towards deepening relations between Zimbabwe and their countries.
Incoming Serbian ambassador Radisa Grujic, who was the first to present his credentials, said his country, which is a former Republic of Yugoslavia, assisted Zimbabweans in their fight against colonial rule.
He said after independence in 1980, Yugoslavia was one of the most important economic and trade partners of Zimbabwe. Grujic said his country is now trying to build from that legacy with the main focus being to preserve the national interests of both countries.
“Special areas of cooperation are agriculture and then some export and import of goods from both countries and also to invest a little more in cooperation of mining and energy,” he said.
He said they were also currently supporting Zimbabwean students with various scholarships, adding that going forward they were looking at broadening and deepening fields of cooperation.
Second to present his credentials was Archbishop Janusz Stanislaw Urbanczk, the incoming ambassador of the Holy See, who said the Roman Catholic Church and Zimbabwe enjoy very good relations.
The Holy See is the government of the Roman Catholic Church which is led by the Pope as the bishop of Rome.
Archbishop Urbanczk said the Holly See is in the process of organising its Jubilee year which will take place next year.
“And this will be the special year of hope, so the preparation for us, for the Catholic Church and the entire world is to rediscover the importance of hope and giving signs of hope for many people living in difficult circumstances,” he said.
The Holy See will work closely with its organisations based in Zimbabwe like the Catholic Dioceses, which are implementing different projects to deepen relations between the two countries, with Bishops, religious congregations through schools and the relief sector spearheading the processes.
Incoming Denmark ambassador, Elsebeth Sondergaard Krone said Zimbabwe and her country have enjoyed good relations for many years and she will focus on further strengthening the ties.
“Some of the areas that Denmark companies have experience in include agriculture, energy and the environment. So those are some of the areas that I will focus on together with the Zimbabwean counterparts,” she said.
