Kwekwe (New Ziana) – ZANU-PF Midlands province on Tuesday commended people in the region for overwhelmingly observing the 21-day lockdown directive to stop the spread of Covid-19, as there are no reports of breaches of the call to stay at home.
In an interview, ZANU-PF Midlands provincial secretary for Information and Publicity, Cornelius Mupereri said people in the province had demonstrated good discipline by complying with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s order to stay at home as part of measures to combat the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are happy as a province that people are complying. We don’t have incidents of breach of the directive. We will continue to encourage our structures to comply with the directive from His Excellency President Mnangagwa.”
Mupereri added that the lockdown down was meant to protect people’s health.
“We also encourage vendors, just like any other sector, to maintain social distance. Just like other small to medium enterprises, they should register with the Social Welfare Department so that they can benefit from the cash transfers as they have been affected by the lock down.”
Mupereri said the party, taking a lead in observing the lockdown, had suspended all its programmes.
“We have put all our programmes on hold and we will only resume when it is safe to do so through guidance from the national level,” he said.
Zimbabwe has registered ten cases of Covid-19, including one death. Most of these are cases of people who had returned from badly affected regions in the world.
