THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has declared Delani Moyo of Zanu PF as the winner of Insiza North Constituency, after polling 7171 votes in yesterday’s by-election for the parliamentary seat.

Leslie Dube, an independent candidate, polled 1187 votes, Thabani Mlotshwa of Zapu got 114 and Mbongeni Moyo of ZNRP got 131 votes.

The constituency election officer, Iwani Z Dube, said the polls went smooth without any hindrances.

“At exactly 7am, we ensured that all our polling stations were opened. Both the aged, youth, and female managed to brave the chilly weather.

“There were 84 rejected papers. I can declare that Delani Moyo of Zanu PF won the election,” Dube said.

Leslie Dube contested as an independent candidate after his resignation from Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), where he served as ward councillor.

Insiza North Constituency fell vacant after the death of Farai Taruvinga, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 54.
